The Filler Compaction Apparatus is utilized in the calculation of the voids in the mass of dry compacted filler material. This accurate measurement allows determining the compactability and porosity of filler, which serves the main goal in construction applications for example for asphalt mixtures and other materials where fillers are added to increase density and strength of the mixture.

The test starts with the compaction of the filler inside the cylinder using the plunger. Voids content is determined on samples after compaction so as to determine the capacities of the material in terms of compaction and porosity. This data is essential when fillers are added to construction materials to boost their performance in terms of strength and density.

The Filler Compaction Apparatus is a useful method that enables accurate identifications of voids with contents when used in Quality assurance & Control and Material specification for construction Industry.

Filler Compaction Apparatus consists of three main parts:

Cylinder: The diameter of the inside of the cylinder is 25.4 mm which creates the necessary gap to enable compaction of the filler material and consequently measurement of the voids content.
Plunger: The plunger, designed to slide freely into the cylinder, has a maximum lateral play of 0.20 ± 0.05 mm. This ensures that the plunger moves smoothly and uniformly within the cylinder, maintaining consistency in the compaction process.
Base and Four Columns: The apparatus is held in place by a metallic base measuring 100x150 mm, supported by four columns. This sturdy construction ensures that the Filler Compaction Apparatus remains stable during the testing procedure, providing reliable results.

To conduct the test with the Filler Compaction Apparatus, additional accessories are required:

A vernier caliper with 0.01 mm accuracy for precise measurements.
A 25 mm diameter filter paper to be used during the testing process.
