Ductilometer with Cooling System
Ductilometer with Cooling System

Product Code
KBL-B055
Ductilometer with Cooling System
Standards
ASTM D113 AASHTO T51
The Ductilometer with cooling system Apparatus is Same as for mod. KBL-B054 but equipped with incorporated refrigerating unit for tests with water temperature from + 5° to + 25°C. The Ductilometer with cooler used to test the ductility of materials such as asphalt, bitumen, and some metals. Also used to determine bituminous ductility, which is the maximum length that a briquette of molten bitumen can be stretched under controlled conditions without breaking. The Ductilometer is simply a moving carriage that travels along guideways. The carriage is powered by an electric motor, and within is a big tank equipped with a digital thermostat, immersion electric heater, cooling coil for cold water circulation, and pump unit.
Ductility is a material's ability to bend under tensile stress (pulling forces) without breaking and is used to assess the qualities of materials used in building, paving, and infrastructure projects. In asphalt and bitumen testing, a ductilometer evaluates elongation qualities at extreme temperatures to determine elastic reset of bitumen. Stainless steel housing with a separated water bath and lid, a stepper motor with a variable speed range of 1 to 50 mm/min, and a digital displacement measurement system. Up to four samples can be examined.
The ductility test determines the ductility of bituminous materials by measuring the elongation before breaking when two briquette specimens are dragged apart at a specific speed and temperature.
This model completely meets and surpasses the ASTM D113 and AASHTO T51 criteria. A water chiller (see equipment) is excellent for this and may already be present in the laboratory, but regular tap water can also be used. If the ambient temperature rises beyond 25°C, as in tropical climates, and cold mains water is not accessible, a water chiller is required.
Water bath
Insulated stainless steel water bath with a heating system spanning the full base surface and a cooling coil (for connection to water mains or chiller) dispersed across the three side walls to provide temperature homogeneity without water turbulence inside the bath. All water-contacting components are constructed of stainless steel.
Carriage displacement
Double-screw rods and a moveable carriage enable test rates ranging from 5 to 100 mm/min. The method also allows for a speedy return of the carriage at the completion of the test (500 mm/min), which reduces dead time and increases production. The carriage return is automated, thus no manual intervention is necessary.
Temperature control
- A closed-loop PID system maintains a consistent temperature.
- Plate-type base heaters provide improved temperature uniformity.
- The thermoregulation system controls both the heater (which raises the bath temperature) and the flow rate of the cooling coil (which lowers the temperature). This key component ensures temperature control within specified limits and allows the use of appropriate conventional water chillers.
Machine control and elongation measurement
Control panel with digital display to set the testing speed: 5 to 100 mm/min, with the carriage return function. Elongation measurement by encoder.
The machine can be completed with a transparent cover.
