As part of experiment on distillation of cut back asphalt, two hundred milliliter of it as distilled in 500 milliliter flask under controlled flow rate, reaching 360 degree Celsius. The volumes of distillate are rather recorded at well-defined temperatures allowing for thorough characterization of the volatile component in the sample. This means that the properties of the residue after distillation may not be same as that of the original bitumen mixture thus the need for analysis.

The apparatus used for the distillation of cut back asphalt consists of several key components: A distillation flask, condenser, an adapter, shield, electric heater with a thermostate, cylinder receiver and a thermometer (ASTM 8C). These principles combine and make distillation processes organized and efficient in their operations. Electric heater with the thermoregulator is equipped for maintaining the heat, whereas graduated cylinder and thermometer with the possibilities to determine the range of -2 to +400 °C with the step of 1°C helps to take accurate measurements during the experiment.
