Pressure Transducers

Standards

Pressure transducers are among the main materials applied in material testing for the purpose of converting pressure measurements into electrical signals. They are applied at construction and laboratory testing sites in an attempt to ensure accurate pressure readings, especially in these industries that are associated with material development and structural analysis.

The pressure transducer is applied in order to achieve great quality durability of materials such as concrete, asphalt, and soil. The engineers use their services in laboratory testing, and they get immediate feedback that will help them make good decisions and modify their testing accordingly. Thus, structural integrity with safety standards is guaranteed.

There are numerous pressure transducers, which are classified according to their special applications. Strain gauge transducers are very sensitive and provide accuracy in highly pressurized devices. The capacitive pressure transducer is sensitive for applications such as laboratory use for the measuring difference between two pressure points, common in construction and soil testing of geotechnical conditions.

A pressure transducer simply converts the physical pressure into an electrical signal that monitoring or control systems interpret. Basically, the main components of the transducer are a sensing element and a diaphragm that is distorted due to the pressure effect. The distortion alters either the electrical resistance of the strain gauge or the capacitance between the sensor plates, depending on how it is designed. The output signal can either be in millivolts, amplified voltage, or current, depending on the needs of the testing system.
