Marsh Funnel and Viscometer
Standards
ASTM D6910
Drilling mud viscosity may be quickly and easily measured on-site with the help of the sturdy, user-friendly marsh funnel viscometer. The mud engineer will be informed of any abrupt changes in mud viscosity that may require corrective measures if the marsh funnel viscosity is frequently reported. However, marsh funnel readings are simply generic measurements. The funnel made of marsh The viscosity of the mud is determined by dividing its shear rate—the pace at which it flows down the output tube—by the shear stress, or the force exerted by the mud's weight. The amount of seconds needed for one quart of mud to flow out of a full marsh funnel is used to measure the viscosity of the marsh.Top of Form
A graded cup specifically made to fit the Marsh funnel viscometer has a capacity of over 946 ml (1 quart). For convenience of usage, the Marsh funnel cup features two spouts. Both an ounce scale and a milliliter scale, which use the US measurement system, are securely cast into the cup.
Drilling fluid sampled fresh is poured through the screen and into the upright funnel while the funnel is covered with a finger during operation. The stopwatch is started after the finger is taken off. It takes a certain amount of time for the drilling fluid to fill the cup to the 946 ml (1 quart) threshold.
Almost every drilling rig uses a Marsh funnel for routine viscosity measurements. Made of durable, break-resistant plastic that is resistant to temperature change deformation. Volumetric accuracy is ensured. The plastic handle provides insulation for the user's hand. A metal orifice ensures accurate readings.
