A wire saw is a saw that utilizes a metal wire or cable to mechanically cut bulk solid materials such stone, wood, glass, ferrites, concrete, metals, and earth. Industrial wire saws are often motorized. There are also hand-powered survivalist wire saws designed for cutting. There are two types of wire saws: continuous (or endless, or loop) and oscillating. Sometimes the wire is referred to as a "blade".
