Compressometer - Extensometer for Cylinder
Standards
ASTM C469
Compressometers-Extensometers are used for determination of Young’s Modulus and Poisson’s Ratio of molded concrete cylinders or diamond-drilled concrete cores when under longitudinal compressive stress acc. to ASTM C469. Compressometer/Extensometers are similar to the compressometer in that they are used to measure average deformation and strain of concrete cylinders during compression tests for modulus of elasticity determination. The compressometer’s design consists of one additional yoke placed half way between the two compressometer yokes.
This middle yoke is designed to pivot horizontally to improve the accuracy of measurements taken on perpendiculars from two diameters of the cylinder.
The compressometer extensometer has important deformation readings using state of the art indicators. The stiffness is capable of determining both axial travel and lateral expansion on 6” diameter by 12” to 16” long high-molded concrete cylinders and diamond-drilled concrete cores. This capability is essential for defining the static modulus of elasticity (Young’s Modulus) and Poisson’s ratio of concrete under compressive loads satisfying all requirements of ASTM C469.
This gadget has been made from a durable Aluminium magnesium alloy to offer durability but is compact in design and size. In particular, the mounting points and the contact zones are produced of high-grade machine steel, whereas the control spacer rods are made of stainless steel. Such a design ensures dependability during demanding calibration processes and experiments. The Compressometer Extensometer for Cylinders consists of dial indicators with 0.2 inches as their operating range and with divisions of 0.0001 inches.
This is where lever ratio design achieves the special feat of doubling the deformation movement and thus expanding the accurate evaluation of axial and diametrical deformation. From the toughness response, the values resulting from the operation allow for a readability of 5 micro-strain per inch of strain or better, as per the necessary specifications established in ASTM C469.
Three metal blocks are suggested for best performance, allowing for easy mid-height installation on concrete cylinders. Users can assure accurate results and effective evaluation of concrete materials by adhering to the ASTM C469 preparation and testing procedures.
